Becoming a Boy Scout
After completing the Cub Scout program, or upon reaching age 10 (and in last few months of 5th Grade), a boy becomes eligible to "bridge" into a Boy Scout troop.
Boy Scouting is the membership level of the Boy Scouts of America for boys and young men 10 to 18 years of age. It provides youth training in character, citizenship, and mental and personal fitness. Boy Scouts are expected to develop personal religious values, learn the principles of American heritage and government, and acquire skills to become successful adults.
To achieve these, Boy Scouting applies eight methods of Scouting: Ideals (the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Scout Motto, and the Scout Slogan), the patrol method, participation in outdoor programs, advancement, adult association, personal growth, leadership development, and the uniform.
Boy Scout ranks are: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle.
