What is Cub Scouts All About?
The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law, which endeavors scouts to strive to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. These values are encouraged through fun family activities centered on: outdoor skills, physical fitness, community service, family values, cooking, first aid, and leadership.
Pack 311 Scouting Details
Eligibility
Youths of all genders from Kindergarten through 5th Grade can join our Cub Scout pack! Pack 311 is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds. Religion plays no role in our everyday pack activities. Scouting America does encourages reverence and adherence to the faith of your family’s choosing ("A Scout is… brave, clean and reverent"). However, this does not condone nor require adherence to any organized religion. We respect all faiths, or a lack thereof and treat all scouts equally.
Scouting Year
Our year mirrors the typical school year (August – June), also with fun activities through the summer months.
The Pack
The Pack is the full group of scouts from grades K – 5. We meet as a full group once a month, typically on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Hillel in Valley Village, CA.
Chartering Organization
Our chartering organization is Temple Beth Hillel. Although our chartering organization is a Jewish temple, Pack 311 is not a Jewish organization or a Jewish Cub Scout pack. (There are Cub Scout packs which “advertise” themselves as being observant of one religion or another exclusively. We are not one of those packs.)
Dens
The Pack is divided into Dens based on grade level:
Lion - Kindergarten
Tiger - 1st Grade
Wolf - 2nd Grade
Bear - 3rd Grade
Webelos - 4th Grade
Arrow of Light - 5th Grade
Dens usually meet 1-2x/month, often at a family's home or local park. Den meetings are scheduled by the den leadership in coordination with the parents. Please refer to the GLAAC Covid Program Matrix for current guidelines.
